The Argentine government announced a series of tax and import rate cuts affecting electronic devices and mobile phones. Manuel Adorni, the spokesperson for President Milei’s administration, announced that the import tariff for mobile phones will be slashed from 16% to 0, democratizing access to these devices. The reduction will be done in two waves: the first cut of 8% in the coming days, and the second, slated for January 2026. “A high-end 5G phone currently costs twice as much in Argentina as it does in Brazil or the United States,” Adorni stated, noting the situation was “ridiculous.” Internal taxes for devices such as air conditioners and TVs will also be lowered.
