Alex Blania, CEO of Tools For Humanity, the company behind the development of Worldcoin, recently met with high-profile Argentine officials, as part of a tour seeking to maintain and extend the company’s operations in the country. According to local media, Blania met with close aides of the administration of President Javier Milei, including Demian Reidel, President of the Council of Economic Advisors to the President of Argentina since March 2024.

The purpose of these meetings would be to clarify the doubts regarding the operations of the project in the country, which is facing different probes related to its biometric data collection activities and its adhesion contracts, At the same time, Worldcoin launched an ad campaign directed to Argentine users, remarking on the importance of having a unique decentralized identification app for avoiding being mistaken for, for example, Lionel Messi.

Worldcoin is currently facing a preliminary investigation by the Public Information Access Agency (AAIP), the data comptroller organization in the country, and has been indicted by the Buenos Aires province for alleged violations of the legal rights of its citizens. However, the company has denied all wrongdoing, stating that it had answered all the inquiries made by the regional government and that these allegations still have to be substantiated.

Nonetheless, the company still faces up to $1 million in fines if it is found guilty of these violations by the regional system. Also, two initiatives seeking to regulate the activities of similar biometric identification companies have been introduced into the provincial legislature of Buenos Aires.
