Before understanding NAT, we need to clarify a theory.
DMT Theory: DMT theory (Digital Matter Theory) refers to the theory of digital matter, which means that users can create a valuable digital form based on the inherent patterns existing in the data. As the Bitcoin block expresses transactions between users, information from many fields is permanently recorded and stored in a decentralized and secure distributed ledger. Therefore, developers can use the principles of DMT to create a new type of digital value.
Currently, DMT has three characteristics in the Bitcoin ecosystem:
Ordinal theory: Due to the existence of ordinals, each satoshi in the BTC ecosystem is assigned a unique ID, and anyone can create digital assets on top of the satoshi based on this ID, which is what we commonly refer to as "engraving."
Scarcity: Sats in unique positions on Bitcoin blocks are considered rare sats, similar to scarce NFTs, so what is engraved on them is often more valuable.
Bitmap theory: Each block on Bitcoin is identified as digital real estate in the area.
With an understanding of the DMT theory, let's take a look at NAT. NAT is an application based on the DMT theory, and anyone can create NAT in the Bitcoin ecosystem, and its token parameters are determined by referencing the .element inscription. Whether through the form of FT engraving or NFT engraving, this is a hybrid token model. The number of tokens represented by each block is different.
The following image represents the ability to engrave 10 units of NAT.
When "blk": 2, it means that users can engrave 1000 NAT. The engraving of blocks 1 and 2 are two unique non-fungible engravings, each recording the separate accounting units of the basic replaceable "satoshi" NAT.
Each block will have a different number of Bits, and the number of Bits corresponding to the block engraved by the user is the actual amount of tokens obtained.
For example, if a user writes NAT into blocks 817,824, they will receive 386,161,170 NAT tokens. And if the user owns 817,824.bitmap, they can also engrave 386,161,170 BMT tokens.
To participate in the NAT engraving process, users can use the following methods:
- Deploy the inscription directly. Open a wallet or trading market in the BTC ecosystem, such as Ordinals Wallet. Search for natmap and complete the relevant engraving.
In Natmap, there are three color expressions: orange indicates unavailable/listed; black indicates available; green tokens have been engraved and are for sale.
Each black square will contain a number, which is the block ID, and each ID will correspond to a certain quantity of tokens.
- For existing projects such as Bitmap, users who hold Bitmap can obtain NAT engraving rights through the parent-child inscription mechanism (create a child inscription under this inscription).
In summary, the popularity of NAT is still in the early stages compared to popular projects like Ordi and Bitmap, but its inherent logic is quite pioneering. This means that besides block height, any data-based feature can be used to create assets. Currently, it has a stimulating effect on the vitality of the Ordinals and BRC-20 ecosystems.
