Since its self-hosted network launch, Arbitrum has implemented two emergency on-chain freezes, both occurring this year.
The first occurred in April when the Arbitrum Security Committee (SC) froze 30,766 ETH held by the KelpDAO hackers.
The second occurred today when the Arbitrum SC froze 74,559,805 ARBs and 8,425 ETH held by addresses linked to the Binance vulnerability.
The previous freeze drew widespread criticism in the comments section, and this one is no exception.
My view remains consistent: Decentralization aims to counter authoritarianism and serve the general public; if centralization aims to help the general public rather than benefit powerful entities, then I believe such centralization is commendable.
Freezing the hackers' accounts exemplifies this kind of centralization.
