It's hard to imagine that a Silicon Valley boss of Chamath's stature would believe in this scenario:
"Quantum computer/AI cracks Bitcoin's algorithm → attackers obtain 1 million BTC of Satoshi Nakamoto's legacy → first short, then dump, squeezing Bitcoin to zero"—a retail investor's script.
This script sounds alarming, but let me tell you, every step has huge flaws.
1. First, a quantum computing breakthrough, Q-Day, is at least 35 years away, not until 2030—plenty of time.
2. Only institutions like Google or IBM possess quantum computers of this level; it's not something North Korea's Kim Jong-un could create in isolation. Such institutions cannot and will not steal these Bitcoins.
3. The community already has countermeasures. Like fighting a boss in a game, the community could already beat the level, but they want a "zero-damage" victory, so they hesitate, sometimes considering decentralization, sometimes considering Satoshi Nakamoto's dignity.
Believe it or not, if Bitcoin were to face a life-or-death situation, the hard fork would easily garner over 75% support.
