According to an October 20 announcement by the Japan Crypto-Asset Business Association (JCBA), the association has established a dedicated task force and released a draft of security management guidelines for crypto exchanges, wallets, and outsourced signature system service providers. The guidelines cover 10 key areas and 347 inspection items, focusing on private key generation and storage, hot and cold wallet segregation, transaction signature verification, and third-party vendor management. Service providers are categorized into five types based on whether they hold private keys and system control permissions, with corresponding security measures required. JCBA highlighted that in recent years, cyberattacks targeting wallet and signature service providers have become frequent, and traditional SOC 2 audits fail to fully address the unique risks of crypto assets. Previously, in 2024, Japan's DMM Bitcoin suffered a loss of approximately 48.2 billion yen in BTC due to an attack involving a third-party wallet software provider.
