Whoa! BlackRock has applied for another Bitcoin ETF, starting to put a 'seatbelt' on Bitcoin! On October 19, BlackRock submitted a new product application to the SEC: iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF, proposed ticker PBIT. This is already BlackRock's third Bitcoin-related ETF. From the earliest IBIT spot ETF, to the BITA options income ETF launched in June this year, and now PBIT—their product lineup is getting more and more interesting. The main play for PBIT this time is: letting you participate in Bitcoin's upside while trying to reduce losses during downturns. PBIT primarily builds its strategy through IBIT-related options spreads and short-term fixed income assets. The initial design of a single options group has a downside space of about 10%, but the entire fund does not have a fixed loss limit and does not guarantee principal safety. However, under this model, if Bitcoin skyrockets, you might only earn a portion of the gains. IBIT solved the problem of how regular investors can buy Bitcoin through a brokerage account, BITA catered to those looking to earn options income, and now PBIT is targeting an even larger potential customer base: those who want exposure to BTC but fear sharp drawdowns—traditional funds, including financial advisors, wealth management institutions, and risk-averse investors. For Bitcoin, this is a long-term structural positive. From spot exposure, to options income, to downside protection, BlackRock is packaging Bitcoin into a full suite of financial products tailored to different risk preferences.
