Why has Bitcoin been so volatile lately, and why are liquidations happening so frequently? Let me break it down into 3 simple points:
1. Leverage is too high, even small dips can trigger liquidations
For example, if you open a 30x long position, the price only needs to drop about 3% for you to face liquidation. Bitcoin fluctuating 1%-3% in a day is super common. Once it hits a dense liquidation zone, it can trigger a chain reaction—more liquidations lead to more selling, and the price drops even further.
2. Long positions are overcrowded, so one dip wipes everyone out
When funding rates are consistently positive, it means everyone is going long and willing to pay to hold their positions. But if the price breaks a key level, forced liquidations turn into sell orders, pushing the price down further and causing a domino effect. It’s not that everyone is selling at the same time—it’s the system selling for you.
3. Altcoins lack trust, so speculators pile into Bitcoin with leverage
A lot of people are too scared to buy altcoins now, thinking they might go to zero. So they stick to Bitcoin and Ethereum, but still use leverage to chase returns. This makes the futures market for major coins even more crowded, and even small price moves can cause massive liquidations.
On top of that, the price keeps bouncing within a range, with liquidation walls on both sides. Once liquidations clear out, leverage quickly builds back up, leading to repeated volatility.
