Samsung and SK Hynix stock prices drop, causing a $137 billion loss for South Korea's pension fund
South Korea's largest pension fund, the National Pension Service (NPS), suffered a loss of approximately 182 trillion KRW (around $137 billion) due to the decline in stock prices of companies like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
According to financial data provider FnGuide, the market value of NPS's holdings in 287 listed companies where it owns more than 5% dropped from 515.93 trillion KRW at the end of June to 333.53 trillion KRW as of October 15.
This marks the first quarterly decline for NPS since Q4 2024. Ironically, it had just achieved a record-high return in the first half of this year.
