[Swedish Central Bank Proposes Preparing Legislation for Digital Krona] Odaily Planet Daily News: The Swedish Central Bank (Riksbank) has proposed that lawmakers prepare relevant legislation for a potential launch of a digital krona, citing reasons such as the European Central Bank (ECB) advancing the digital euro and the increasing use of foreign stablecoins. In a letter to the parliamentary finance committee on October 7, the bank stated that the ECB plans to conduct a digital euro pilot in 2027 and may roll it out to the public by 2029. The Swedish Central Bank pointed out that if the payment system lacks a digital version of the national currency, its competitiveness could be affected. The bank believes that foreign stablecoins, such as those pegged to the US dollar, are widely used for payments within Sweden, which could exert pressure on the use of the Swedish krona, though the short-term risks are limited. The Swedish Central Bank estimates that launching a digital krona would take at least five years, not including the time required for legislative changes. (Cointelegraph)
