[Starknet Initiates Community Vote to Explore Transition to Independent Quantum-Resistant L1, STRK to Remain as Native Token]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the Starknet community has launched a non-binding 7-day vote to consult STRK holders on whether to support further research into the possibility of transitioning Starknet from an Ethereum L2 to an independent quantum-resistant L1. The proposal states that Starknet currently employs hash-based STARK proofs and native account abstraction technology, with its core protocol possessing quantum-resistant capabilities. User accounts can also adopt quantum-resistant signatures without requiring protocol upgrades. However, components such as its cross-chain bridge and data availability, which rely on Ethereum, are still constrained by Ethereum's progress in quantum-resistant upgrades. Transitioning to an independent L1 could eliminate this dependency.
The proposal clarifies that regardless of the final approach, STRK will continue to serve as the network's native token, with no new tokens issued, and the cross-chain bridge between Ethereum and Starknet will remain open. This vote is solely intended to gauge community sentiment and does not constitute a formal decision to transition. If the vote passes, the team will initiate further research and propose a detailed plan; if not supported, efforts will continue to advance quantum-resistant upgrades within the existing L2 framework.
