Let’s take a quick detour to talk about corporate bonds. On the 13th, before the CPI was released on the 14th, CoreWeave notes had already started to drop, with yields skyrocketing past 15%.
The relationship between CoreWeave and NVIDIA has been talked about to death—classic case of one foot stepping on the other in a spiraling ladder to the sky. Honestly, this high-interest-rate revolving debt isn’t much different from the crypto world’s stablecoin collateralized lending blowups.
Plus, with U.S. Treasury yields so high recently, why bother buying corporate bonds when you can just go for risk-free Treasuries? Sure, Treasuries have been criticized for ages, but their creditworthiness is still way better than corporate bonds. Especially short-term ones like the 2-year and 10-year Treasuries—they’re still pretty popular.
In short, everyone knows there’s a bubble in AI, and it’s bound to burst sooner or later. But there will always be greedy people. This kind of bubble burst will probably happen in a series of controlled explosions. Even though it’s dropped so much this time, it’s definitely not the end. There will be rebounds, but the lows might keep getting lower. A gradual decline is definitely better than one massive collapse.
