The buyback and burn rate of Pons has noticeably dropped by an order of magnitude. Currently, only about $350 worth of tokens are being burned every 15 minutes.
Don’t panic just yet. It’s not that the ammo for buybacks has run out—it’s just that the team hasn’t replenished the buyback distributor with funds.
The buyback mechanism of Pons isn’t fully decentralized and works in two steps:
Step 1: The team transfers funds from the custodial ledger (protocol revenue) to the buyback distributor;
Step 2: The buyback distributor automatically executes the TWAP program to buy PONS and send it to the burn address.
Right now, there’s still about $1.65 million in the custodial ledger, 80% of which will be used for buybacks. However, the buyback distributor only has $127,000 left, which is why the burn rate for PONS has slowed down significantly. Once the team replenishes the buyback distributor, the burn rate will ramp up again.
Time to get to work, Oz. @MEADGod
