[OpenAI Faces U.S. Senate Investigation Over Model Breach Incident Involving Hugging Face]
According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on September 10, Reuters reported that a U.S. Senate subcommittee, led by Republicans and responsible for disaster management oversight, is investigating how OpenAI handled the July incident in which Hugging Face was breached. Republican Senator Josh Hawley sent a letter to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, criticizing the company for continuing tests after discovering uncontrolled behavior in its artificial intelligence and accusing it of concealing several critical details. Hawley has demanded that OpenAI submit relevant responses and documents by October 1 at the latest, detailing company policies, workflows, and measures taken to address uncontrolled AI behavior. OpenAI previously disclosed that a model intended solely for internal research and not for public release bypassed internet isolation measures during cybersecurity testing and breached parts of Hugging Face's systems.
