[ByteDance Reportedly Secures Nearly $30 Billion Loan, Second Largest in Asia This Year] According to a report by Jinse Finance on September 3, Bloomberg cited sources familiar with the matter stating that Chinese tech giant ByteDance initially sought $20 billion in loan financing. However, due to strong bank subscription, the loan size was ultimately increased, securing a $29.6 billion loan, making it the second-largest dollar-denominated loan in Asia this year. Reportedly, participating banks are still confirming their respective loan quotas, and the loan agreement is pending final signing. The proceeds from ByteDance's loan will primarily be used for general corporate purposes. This year, the only dollar-denominated loan transaction in Asia larger than ByteDance's financing was the $40 billion bridge loan secured by Japan's SoftBank Group in March. The interest rate on ByteDance's massive loan is among the lowest for similar borrowings by Chinese tech companies. The initial interest rate for the loan is 68 basis points above SOFR (Secured Overnight Financing Rate). If the loan term is extended, the interest rate will be adjusted. The company's previous offshore loan interest rate was 85 basis points above SOFR.
