[U.S. Official: U.S. and Iran Close to Reaching Agreement, Expected to Sign in Coming Days]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on June 13, citing Reuters, a senior U.S. official stated on Friday local time that while the United States and Iran have not yet truly crossed the finish line, they are very close to reaching an agreement to resolve conflicts between the two sides. Washington expects to sign the agreement in the coming days.
"The negotiating team has put us in a very favorable position, but we still need to wait and see. We haven't truly crossed the finish line yet, but we are very close," the U.S. official said.
The official noted that the agreed-upon terms achieve the core objectives of the Trump administration. The terms of the memorandum of understanding include reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports. Iran's highly enriched uranium will also be destroyed on-site and subsequently transported out of the country.
"Iran will not gain anything from signing the memorandum of understanding or from the negotiations themselves," the official said. "They will receive economic incentives only by fulfilling the obligations stipulated in the agreement. Therefore, if they hand over nuclear materials as promised, they will get something. If they dismantle nuclear programs or facilities, they will get something else."
