"Scams are really everywhere, hard to guard against.
Just saw this—Philadelphia musician G. Love downloaded a fake Ledger wallet app from the App Store. While setting up his hardware wallet, he was tricked into entering his 24-word seed phrase, resulting in 5.92 BTC being stolen.
This musician said he’s been in the crypto space since 2017, so he’s not a newbie. He downloaded the fake app because he had just switched to a new MacBook.
You need to know: both the App Store and Google have tons of fake apps. So how can regular people protect themselves?
1. Before downloading an app, cross-check it with the official website or official Twitter account.
2. Buy hardware wallets directly from the official website. There have been cases where people bought compromised hardware wallets with backdoors from TikTok, losing millions.
3. The seed phrase for a hardware wallet should only ever be entered on the hardware device itself. Any app or website asking you to input your seed phrase on a phone or computer is phishing."
