[WSJ: Iran Limits Strait Passage to Around Ten Ships Daily]
BlockBeats News, April 9, according to WSJ, Iran has informed mediators that it will limit the number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz to approximately ten per day and will impose transit fees. Arab mediators stated that vessels must coordinate with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran for passage.
According to S&P Global Market Intelligence data, only four ships were granted passage on Wednesday, marking the lowest level since April. The ships permitted to pass are currently navigating a corridor north of the conventional route, located between Iran's Qeshm Island and Larak Island, close to the Iranian coast, heading toward the Gulf of Oman. Shipping operators stated that fees are typically determined a week in advance and vary based on the size of the vessel. For a supertanker capable of carrying approximately 2 million barrels of crude oil, the fee can reach up to $2 million.
Iran has also proposed to mediators to share transit fees with Oman, but Oman has not yet agreed to the plan. According to the latest report from Iran's Press TV, the Strait of Hormuz has been completely closed, forcing oil tankers to turn back. (Jin10)
