[Thai Federation of Industries: Trump's 10% Global Tariff Will Severely Impact Thailand's Electronics and Automotive Exports] Jin10 Data, February 21 – According to Thai media reports, the Thai Federation of Industries (FTI) stated that after the U.S. Supreme Court restricted the authority to impose 'reciprocal tariffs,' Trump invoked Section 122 of the 1974 Trade Act to impose a 10% tariff on global imports ('global tariff'). This tariff policy will impact Thailand's exports of electronic products such as hard disk drives (HDD), printed circuit boards (PCB), and integrated circuits (IC), as Thailand is a major manufacturing hub for these products. The automotive and parts industry (especially the tire sector) will be severely affected, as the additional 10% tariff will be layered on top of existing anti-dumping duties, significantly increasing costs. Furthermore, exports of household appliances (such as air conditioners and refrigerators) will also be hit, as the U.S. is a key market for these products. As one of the major exporters of gems and jewelry, Thailand's exports to the U.S. are substantial. On the other hand, Thailand's agricultural and fishery products, such as rice, durian, mangosteen, and many tropical fruits, have been granted tariff exemptions.
