[Report: Stablecoin Transfers Exceeded $35 Trillion Last Year, but Only 1% Were for Real-World Payments]
According to Coindesk, a new report by consulting firm McKinsey and blockchain data company Artemis Analytics reveals that over $35 trillion in stablecoins were transferred on blockchains last year, but only about 1% of that was for real-world payments. The analysis estimates that only $380 billion of activity reflected actual payments, such as payments to suppliers, remittances, or payroll. This accounts for approximately 0.02% of the global total payments, while McKinsey estimates the global total payments exceed $2 quadrillion annually.
