People will gradually start to realize just how deep SpaceX's moat is:
- Rocket payload cost moat
- Near-monopoly on the best broadband satellite space resources in Low Earth Orbit (LEO)
- A massive amount of monopolized spectrum resources
For latecomers, costs in all aspects will grow exponentially.
In 2-3 years, when SpaceX starts launching GPUs into space, people will begin to understand that orbital resources for deploying data centers in Earth's orbit are also extremely limited—and will most likely be monopolized by SpaceX.
Again, costs for latecomers will grow exponentially.
Space computing power is a resource battle constrained by four physical limits: cooling, radiation, communication, and the number of stable orbital slots.
The most cost-effective orbits for deploying high-density computing power are only two: L2 and premium-grade HEO. In the short term (within 10 years), these might be the only viable options.
This is a strategic resource even scarcer than LEO.
Beyond that, there are orbital resources farther from Earth, but their costs are even higher.
Without the profits from LEO data centers, it will be very difficult to fund the development of data centers in farther orbits.
In this decades-long resource battle of the future,
SpaceX has already established an unparalleled moat advantage, likely to win step by step, victory after victory.
