We have a $250 billion trade deficit with the European Union. The Europeans have been taking advantage of our generosity since WW2 and our own leaders have been too feckless to address the issue. Just as Americans subsidize the defense of Europe while Europeans barely pay a fraction, the same is happening in other areas of the economy, such as pharmaceuticals. Europeans get cheaper drug prices than Americans and this is by design.
