Today, Bitcoin plunged from 92k all the way down to 83.8k, evaporating $140 billion in 24 hours, with nearly $1 billion in leveraged positions liquidated. The entire network is crying out. At the same time, spot gold is steadily holding above $2,650 and even ticking upward. Why? Bitcoin is essentially still a 'leveraged Nasdaq,' while gold is the true safe haven. Here are the three main culprits behind the sell-off: 1. Japanese government bond yields surged to 1.877% (a 16-year high) → Yen skyrocketed → The largest yen carry trade in 30 years (estimated at $3.4 trillion) collectively blew up → Risk assets were forcibly dumped. 2. Post-Thanksgiving liquidity was extremely thin + algorithmic stop-loss cascades, causing Bitcoin's correlation with U.S. tech stocks to spike to 46%, both crushed by the yen meat grinder. 3. Bitcoin ETFs saw net outflows of $3.45 billion in November, MicroStrategy's stock price plummeted 11%, rumors about Tether's stability, and China reiterated its crypto ban over the weekend—all adding fuel to the fire. So why is gold rising instead of falling? Because central banks have already gone crazy buying over 1,000 tons by 2025 (led by China, India, and Russia). Gold is a hard asset that hedges against geopolitical risks and the collapse of dollar credibility. It doesn’t rely on yen leverage and isn’t pressured by ETF redemptions. When risk aversion kicks in, people run to gold, not Bitcoin. The script for 2025 is already written: Bitcoin will keep riding the roller coaster, while gold will continue hitting all-time highs. Which side are you on? The market has already chosen for you.
