[Solana Quietly Ends Support for Saga Phone Just Two Years After Launch]
According to DL News, the development team behind Solana's Saga phone announced on Monday that they would stop providing critical software and security updates for the device just two years after its launch. In a post on the company's website, they stated: 'The Solana Mobile Saga has reached the end of its support lifecycle and cannot guarantee compatibility with new software or services.' The lack of support means the device will no longer receive updates, making it more vulnerable to security threats and potentially causing applications to stop functioning over time. Solana Labs did not respond to requests for comment.
The Saga phone was launched in May 2023 with the goal of integrating blockchain technology and making the Web3 ecosystem more accessible to everyday users. Its release was also a response to restrictive app store policies from companies like Apple and Google. The phone was developed in collaboration between California-based hardware company OSOM and Solana Labs' subsidiary, Solana Mobile. Compared to other smartphone manufacturers, its two-year lifecycle is unusually short.
