How we do this at Coinbase:
- Have strong, clear values. Reinforce them often, to staff and in public.
- Keep a high bar for hiring. Never compromise. Prioritize mission/culture alignment.
- Empower DRIs so people can act like owners and get things done.
- Get teams together in person every quarter! We are remote first, but not remote only. We have global ‘hubs’ where our teams get together in person for surges.
- Offer budgets for meeting up with colleagues outside of work. This could be a team dinner, going to a sporting event, or even a virtual lunch.
- Recharge weeks twice a year, and regular no-meeting weeks, to help everyone unplug and get focused work done.(Brian Armstrong)
