No one knows which will come first, tomorrow or the unexpected. Today, I just learned that a friend who had shared some moments with us has passed away. We were together enjoying barbecue in October 2025, and from the time I learned about the illness to his passing, it was only 12 days. He had late-stage liver cancer that had spread to his stomach.
I had always felt pain all over but didn't pay much attention to it. Later, I was persuaded to go to the hospital, and by the time the examination was done, it was already like this. The doctor said that with proper care, he might have a year left. He was hospitalized in Singapore for three days and then returned home.
Upon returning, he went to a specialized cancer hospital, and within a week, many people were gone. Friends around him said it was shocking. He was in the same circle, worked on a few projects, and was a somewhat well-known shareholder in the nightlife scene, and just like that, he was gone.
Health checks are very important. The doctor asked him why he hadn't gotten checked in at least five years. If he had done so a few years earlier, it wouldn't have been untreatable; at least there would have been a chance for relief. When I met him in 2024, looking back, he already had cancer then. At that time, he loved to drink heavily in nightclubs, and he was very thin, not eating much.
Reflecting on it is quite poignant; making money is important, but life is more important. Once life is gone, no amount of money can be taken with you. I hope my friends pay more attention to their health, undergo regular check-ups, as living gives you a chance, and the longer you live, the greater your opportunities.
