Quantum computing doesn't just threaten future cryptography but also today's privacy.
Most privacy tools rely on computational hardness assumptions. Transactions made today could be de-anonymized once quantum computers become practical.
@Zcash works differently by using information-theoretic hiding.
The sender, receiver, and amount are hidden in a way that no computational power can reveal.
A quantum computer can't expose historical Zcash transactions because the information isn't there to extract. Transactions you make today on systems relying on computational hardness could be fully traceable in a decade. On Zcash, they can't be.
The team is addressing remaining quantum risks in sequence. Tachyon targets mainnet by end of 2026 with full quantum proofing expected by 2028. Quantum recoverability is built in as a safety net if quantum computers arrive sooner than expected.
Zcash is also tackling long term miner incentives. Bitcoin's security depends on block rewards that halve toward zero.
Shielded Labs is developing the Network Sustainability Mechanism, which allows ZEC to be burned and reintroduced as future rewards following an exponential decay.
Zcash is getting ready for the long term.
