Today, I followed @jiandaoshou_j's article about the x402 introduction and was extremely excited. Finally, there is a new narrative that is native to crypto and leads in technology, rather than the chaotic hype of various Chinese meme coins. Logically speaking, x402 is a core exploration that truly addresses the future incentive and payment pathways between #AI Agents. The future development of #AI will definitely rely on a set of underlying payment protocols. Right now, it's x402, and there may be more in the future, but this exploration is extremely valuable and meaningful.

I want to praise #OKX for its speed of response; it was simply too fast.

Just a few days after #Base released the x402 concept, OKX immediately launched the "Base DEX Channel." The key point is—there's no need to withdraw tokens or cross chains; you can directly use USDC or ETH stored in the exchange to buy new coins on Base. Currently, it's in the internal testing phase, and you can apply for a free experience.

Just open the #OKX App, and the path is: Exchange → Market → DEX → Base, enter CA, and you can buy directly.

This is actually a profound move. #OKX is transforming the "exchange" into an entry point for "one-click access to the on-chain ecosystem." Previously, we said that exchanges and the on-chain world were two separate systems, but now #OKX is quietly merging these two systems. This means that retail investors no longer need to understand cross-chain, bridges, or wallets to participate in the latest ecosystem.

In the future, AI agents, API interfaces, websites, and machines—without needing to register, log in, have a Stripe account, or API keys—can complete instant payments using USDC just by following the x402 protocol. This may sound a bit abstract, but it has enormous significance: just as HTTP enabled all websites to transmit data, x402 may allow all AIs and applications to transmit value.

🤖 Why the #AI economy cannot do without x402

The biggest bottleneck for #AI right now is not capability, but "payment." For example:

An #AI assistant needs to call API data, download models, and access news from other websites, all of which cost money, but it has no credit card or account.

After using x402, the AI can directly "pay USDC" to buy data and computing power. This means that for the first time, AI has autonomous economic rights. It can earn and spend money on its own, which is what we call the "Autonomous AI Economy."

Coinbase's ambition is not only to be a payment tool for AI users but also to establish a settlement standard between AIs.

🔗 Technical Highlights: ERC-8004 + Multi-Chain Interoperability + Gasless Payments

The technology stack behind x402 is actually very practical, with several key points worth noting:

ERC-8004 Standard: Allows payment requests and responses to be interoperable across different chains, transmitted like data packets. This means that in the future, Base, OP, Solana, BSC, and Sei can all use the same payment language.

Gasless Payments: Users do not need to prepare Gas (ETH); service providers can pay the Gas on their behalf, greatly lowering the threshold.

Microtransactions & Pay-Per-Use Billing: Allows for small settlements at the level of each request, such as a few cents for an AI calling an API once. This is particularly crucial, as the AI world primarily operates on such microtransactions.

Many people have not yet realized that what #Coinbase has been doing in the past two years is no longer just "listing coins and trading." They are building "standard layer infrastructure." Look at their layout:

x402: Payment layer

This set of combinations directly corresponds to the underlying needs of the "AI-driven internet economy." You will find that they are actually replicating the significance of the standard layer era like "HTTP + DNS + TCP/IP," which is what gives the industry long-term value wings. They are a company worth admiring.

Finally, I personally believe that x402 is the most promising thing to become the "new standard" in the #AI + #Crypto track from this year to next year. It is not a coin but a protocol, and within this narrative, many new things can emerge. Once the protocol is adopted by various #AIs and websites, its ecosystem tokens and related infrastructure (such as Base, OKX channel, USDC payment system) will undergo a significant revaluation. Moreover, the currently stagnant #AI track may be reactivated.
