Sometimes I really get poked in my (weird) funny bone by ideas at hackathons 🤣
For example, the "Garbage Man" project at Bitcoin++ 2025 Austin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLLpmbg4KKk&t=2266s
As I mentioned in my previous tweet about OP_RETURN, those who want to send spam transactions can always find unrestricted nodes like Libre Relay to forward them to miners. But you can also choose to run a Knots node to filter out what you consider spam transactions, at least not forwarding them.

Is there anything else that can be done? No
The approach of Garbage Man is to modify the Knots node, disguising it as a Libre Relay node, and establish connections with these nodes, pretending to forward various spam transactions, but in reality, it will secretly discard these transactions and not forward them, just like a garbage worker dumping trash. Currently, the number of Knots nodes should be greater than that of Libre Relay, so theoretically, it would also reduce the probability of successful forwarding by Libre Relay.
