In fact, this is an inherent problem for many former colonial countries: the national will has not been unified through a war of blood and fire. People have merely been lucky to inherit the national borders drawn by former colonizers, while internally, they are still in a feudal or aristocratic ancient era.
Before the West developed, China ended feudalism during the Qin Dynasty and ended aristocratic rule during the Song Dynasty. Similarly, Japan ended feudalism during the Tokugawa period, and the Meiji Restoration initiated a great unification (although there were still remnants of aristocracy).
In countries like the Philippines, the entire nation is ruled by hundreds of aristocratic families. Can ordinary people compete with them? No way.
Another example is why Rwanda was able to recover quickly. Is it related to the genocide back then? Although many people died, at least the ruling class unified the national will.
