About the Cancun-Deneb Upgrade

$ETH's Cancun-Deneb upgrade timeline:

  • January 17th, on the Goerli test network (currently in the 12th internal test version, this is the first time it will be on the public test network);
  • January 30th, on the Sepolia test network (if no new bugs appear on Goerli);
  • February 7th, on the final test network Holesky (if no new bugs appear on Sepolia).

Generally, if there are no bugs on Holesky, add another half to one month, which means the end of February or the beginning of March, to wait for the Ethereum mainnet's Cancun-Deneb upgrade.

The two most important proposals for the Cancun-Deneb upgrade:

  • EIP4844, the data of Rollup will be stored in the external blob of ETH, so the cost of Rollup L2 will be greatly reduced.
  • EIP1533, L1 will support the flash mechanism, unnecessary on-chain computations will be deleted after use, which can slightly reduce the cost of L1, especially benefiting DEX contracts like UniSwap (this was originally proposed by Uni, but missed the Shanghai upgrade).
