Bitcoin OG perspective: Shitcoins won't die, but you can go somewhere else

Today, Bitcoin Core developer Luke Dashjr posted on X platform stating: "Inscription is exploiting a vulnerability in the Bitcoin Core client to send garbage information to the blockchain. Since 2013, Bitcoin Core has allowed users to set an additional data size limit ('-datacarriersize') when relaying or mining transactions. By obfuscating their data as program code, Inscription bypassed this limit. This vulnerability was recently fixed in Bitcoin Knots V25.1. Due to significant disruptions to my workflow at the end of last year (V24 was completely skipped), the fix took longer than usual. The vulnerability still exists in the upcoming V26 release of Bitcoin Core. I can only hope it will be finally fixed before V27 next year."

This statement has sparked intense discussions in the community, and this article represents the viewpoint of @AurtrianAjian:

Rest assured, shitcoins will not die, because you shitcoiners have always existed. Where there is demand, there is supply. If you disappear from Bitcoin, you will find a new casino (you can't even be banned from Bitcoin). But for this reason, I support Luke, because you can go elsewhere. I will run Bitcoin Knots.

Luke Dashjr also contributes code to the Bitcoin Core software, but this time he released his own software, Bitcoin Knots. He hopes that Bitcoin Core v27 can make the fix, but this is only his personal hope. He must convince other Bitcoin Core developers to do so. Furthermore, Luke himself knows that it is technically difficult to ban these shitcoins…

Even detailed restrictions will reserve some space to avoid harming normal usage, and shitcoins will exploit this space. The current fix is at the transaction pool policy level of the node, meaning that nodes can choose not to relay these shitcoin transactions. However, because these transactions do not violate consensus rules, once they enter the Bitcoin blockchain, they will still be accepted and stored by the entire network.

So, 1. It is technically difficult to completely prohibit; 2. Forming a network-wide restriction requires consensus from the majority of node operators; 3. Direct communication with miners can bypass the restriction methods available to full nodes (miners are supporting you, aren't they?). What else do you have to worry about? Just hold your shitcoins and continue to play, continue to dance, that's all.

The best comment I've heard is probably, "If he wants to ban, let him ban. Does he think this is Ethereum?" (Applause, applause) This excellently summarizes the characteristics of the Bitcoin community. But to counter with a question, the Bitcoin network is not his, but is it yours? He can only represent himself, how can you represent justice and represent others?

If you own Bitcoin, it just means you are the owner of a certain UTXO. But no one is the owner of the Bitcoin network. On the contrary, each node operator is the owner of their own node. This owner can decide what software to run, which transactions to relay, and which set of consensus rules to use. Bitcoin doesn't have a pope and doesn't need one; every node operator has self-sovereignty.

Luke will not be so arrogant as to think that everyone will listen to him, nor will he think that he can represent everyone who contributes code to Bitcoin Core. He is just releasing his own software, that's all. He is just providing software for those who want to reject all of this. He is just expressing his personal plea. If you feel offended, then I don't mind offending you again: Do you have your own full node?

Those with full nodes don't need your representation. Why can't I not relay your shitcoin transactions? Don't you need to send shitcoin transactions yourself using a full node? You can also send them directly to miners. You can laugh happily, healthily, and in passing, slander a Bitcoin developer with malicious intent or accuse him of narrow-mindedness, and then mock him for being powerless against you.

But this doesn't change anything. You are still a shitcoiner. You still hold shitcoins. Luke is not always right, nor is he always good, and I won't treat Luke's mind as my own. But he is a hero.
